Now how come nobody is discussing MAGIC here? Are you guys trying to tell me you've not heard any songs? Even those waiting for the 2 Oct release must have heard songs on the radio... it was BBC2 radio album of the week, Radio god Johnny Walker and his lesser servant Chris Evans have been playing heaps of songs... Anyone got any opinions?
At first I thought it was all a little disjointed. Too many styles. Wasn't to keen on radio Nowhere because it felt soooo commercial. But you know what I learned that songs does really well with volume way up.. and boy, i love it now. My personal favourite is Devil's arcade. Love the Phil Spector wall of sound on some of the other tracks, although some hooks, riffs or whatever you call them catchy things in songs, sound strangely familiar at times... (girls in their summer clothes for example...) Saying all this, I can't wait to hear the songs live. I am making London with my daughter but decided to give up my 2 oslo tickets (to go with my son) because the concert was on 4th of Dec when St Nicholas is about to arrive (Dutch Santa who knocks on door and leaves presents on the 5th) and it's a family thing... I sold them on to a very delighted Nroseman for face-value of course!!! So London will have to do it! But it's the last show of this leg of the tour, the band should be HOT HOT HOT, personally hoping for just about every song on the album and wouldn't Santa be the greatest ever treat?
So come on gals and lads... what do you think of the album. Let's get this forum talking!

got Magic today and my first overall impressions are not good. There are some gems on here, but this the first album of Bruce that I don't feel is unified. The songs all feel stand alone and orphaned. I can't wait for the concert versions(Toronto Oct 15) I have this nagging feeling that this album was rushed.

I actually think this his best effort in years, and I love every album. I cant wait to see the show in Chicago. Do you all have a drop line in Europe? Can usually get front three rows for phase value about an hour before the show. Bruce drop tickets for his most loyal. Great to see the same fans from town to town. Whether you think this is his best or not, it is still Bruce and that is better than anything else out there.
Remember, "Stand tall, or dont walk at all"! Enjoy.

I must say, I felt the same. Missed the connection particularly in sound. The lyrics are quite unified I feel, but the sound is so different from song to song. However, the more I listen the more I enjoy. Give it lots of spin. I feel this was rushed too, maybe recent deaths have spurned Bruce on to consider his own mortality. Wonder when he'll tackle that issue...

Sounds to me like a return to his roots type thing, very 60's - 70's sounding stuff. anyway I like it much better then the squeeze-box stuff he has been doing.

Hey ajelpenn Welcome I'm having to wait for the last 2 concerts before Xmas: Londond and Belfast. But I believe they'll be awesome!!! I have seen a lot of footage of the concerts so far and it's killing me not being there. I am really liking the album now and it's in the CDplayer as a daily fix at the moment. Good to hear the band is smoking.

Hi Dancerinthedark, Thanks for the welcome. The Magic songs performed live take on a different edge then the album version. Bruce's facial expressions, dancing and total cohesiveness of the band make the songs greater. Plus his intro into the songs let you feel what he was thinking when he was writing them. He did Ramrod in Detroit it wa so good. I already want to see him again. At least you have something to look forward to and what a Christmas treat. He always does something special for Christmas. Make sure you get the Rolling Stone issue with Bruce on the cover, it is a great interview. There is something great in this world when I am driving my kids to friends or pratices and we are singing together "Girls in their Summer Clothes" Just like when we lived in NY and hit the Jersey shore every weekend during the summer. It's that great Bruce feeling

Hi, I think "Magic" is best enjoyed if you make "Radio nowhere" and "Girls in their summer clothes" disappear using the skip button, it works for me anyway. I appreciate Bruce has to try new things, but he should go back to producing himself (Along with Chuck Plotkin) as i think Brendan O'Brian is taking things away rather than adding to his music.

Yeah. Actually O'Brien produces for Korn too. A friend of mine listens to them and I saw the back of the case - "PRODUCED BY BRENDAN O'BRIEN." Interesting.

Magic is hands down Bruce's BEST album since the band has gotten back together, and I would argue his best album ever, and I'm no newbie, started listening to Bruce with Greetings. It's certainly better than the duds WB and WOAD, those are the only 2 Bruce albums that totally suck!
